The return travel period after Eid al-Fitr is a time when people often bring gifts for family and relatives. During this period, the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) emphasizes the importance of ensuring the halal status of purchased products. BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan stressed that souvenirs should not only be judged by taste or appearance, but must also be guaranteed halal.
"Don’t let the intention to share happiness be accompanied by uncertainty about a product’s halal status. Ensure every gift you choose carries a halal label," said Babe Haikal, the familiar name for BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan, in Jakarta on Wednesday (March 25, 2026).
He urged the public to be more careful in selecting products—especially processed food and beverages widely sold in strategic locations along travel routes. The official halal label issued by BPJPH is a key indicator that a product has undergone inspection according to established standards.
In addition to checking the halal label on packaging, consumers can independently verify a product’s halal status through the BPJPH official website at bpjph.halal.go.id.
To do so:
1.Visit bpjph.halal.go.id
2.Click on the "Cek Produk Halal" (Check Halal Product) menu
3.Enter the product name, business entity, or halal certificate number
4.Click "Cari" (Search) — the product’s halal status will then appear
"Checking the authenticity of a halal label or certificate is easy. Just open the BPJPH website, enter the details, and you’ll see the result," he added.
Consumers are also advised to pay attention to ingredient composition and hygiene, especially for UMKM (small and medium enterprise) products that may lack standardized packaging. Choosing halal-certified products reflects a conscious lifestyle—not only fulfilling business obligations, but also protecting consumers by ensuring access to safe, healthy, and genuinely halal goods.
Babe Haikal also highlighted that purchasing halal UMKM products supports the growth of Indonesia’s halal ecosystem.
"By choosing halal-certified products, including those from UMKMs, we help micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs grow and strengthen the sustainability of Indonesia’s halal economy. Every small step we take as consumers has a significant impact," he emphasized.
